I Will Not Be a Church Burnout
Passage: Ephesians 2:8–2:10
When people first begin to serve or be involved in church, they're totally excited and on fire for what they do. But sadly many become what are known as "Comet-Christians." They come in fast and on fire almost out of nowhere, but they often disappear in trail of white smoke. What happened? Why does it happen? The sad part is not so much that they stop serving, but that they end up leaving the church. People leave for many reasons, some good, some not-so-good, but the reasons are typically repeated. A common thread runs through most of the stories. There is something about the church that brings big disappointment and disillusionment. It usually happens when a church member is doing too much, or too little. It can also happen when a church members is doing the opposite, not participating in anything at all. Then there are some who have checked out entirely, not wanting to do anything with the church at all.
